MTG - Lim-Dul's High Guard (Red Armor) Original Artwork - NFS
Created in 1996 for Wizards of the Coast's collectible card game Magic the Gathering, "Lim-Dul's High Guard" (red armor) was published in the Alliances Expansion. There are two versions of the artwork for this card, both illustrated by Anson Maddocks.
Very recently I happened to comment to Anson that I found the black skeleton to be unusual and was surprised that I had not identified it as such before. He explained that Lim-Dul's minions consisted of the "undead", zombie-types so to speak. Anson went on to tell me that while creating this artwork, he was imagining the particular issues specific to leading a legion of zombies. A couple of those issues which occurred to him were the unavoidable malodorous stench and also the messy problem of decomposition. This skeleton is encased in a protective black lacquer to preserve what is left of it's physical form, serving two-fold against fetor and decay.
Artwork dimensions approximately 7.5" inches wide by 6 inches tall.
Materials: ink and acrylic gouache on archival 3/8 inch thick illustration board.
